If you’re unfamiliar with Joel Friant, he is the shining example of what it means to be a serial entrepreneur; Friant has worked, and thrived, in several businesses arenas including real estate, the restaurant business, direct sales, and most importantly, habanero shakers, which are custom-flaked hot habanero chile peppers. In an interview in Ideamensch, a user-generated content platform for entrepreneurs, Friant describes the origin of the habanero shaker as a love affair with habanero chile peppers that manifested itself into a business idea.
Friant believed that although most people liked the spicy kick associated with habanero chile peppers most found them to be too hot. He believed that if these chile peppers could be produced in a dried shaker format, it would attract customers, and in 1995, after investing some time in research and development, he introduced the habanero shaker to the world, selling the product in several grocery stores throughout Washington State.
Prior to his success with habanero shakers, Joel Friant worked in real estate; he purchased foreclosure property and after renovating them, sold the properties for a profit. In 2003, with his knowledge of the real estate market, he established a successful mortgage lending company. In 2012, Friant developed an affinity for online sales and began selling various products, including the habanero shakers, on eBay and Amazon. Friant’s success in the online world ultimately led him to crypto-currency, a virtual currency designed to work as a medium of exchange, for holders/investors.
In addition to his real estate and online selling endeavors, Friant has written a number of articles for several well-known publications and has held countless online seminars, aimed at novice entrepreneurs. In these seminars, Fraint discusses his personal climb to success, describing in detail his early work in real estate, launching his habanero shaker business, and his online sales through eBay and Amazon.
Friant attributes his success to two things, writing things down and learning from others. He believes that having his thoughts on paper enables him to free up space in his mind to entertain new ideas, while still being able to keep track of old ones. In addition, he is always open to learning new things from others that have found success before him.
